Somatic Health is situated within the wider field of somatic approaches. I am a member of the International Somatic Movement Education and Therapy Association (ISMETA) which is dedicated to evolving the field of somatic movement. Somatic movement is a means of enhancing human function and body-mind integration through mindful and restorative movement.
Somatic awareness facilitates increased vitality and performance, expands creative and communicative expression, integrates learning and personal transformation. As a registered practitioner I guide individuals and groups into an inner experience of their bodies, deepening clients’ understanding of themselves in motion.
This transformational learning process can include sound, breath, touch and imagery in addition to sensory awareness (receptive) and movement (expressive) explorations.
For me, movement and dance bring joy and relief, freedom and vibrancy, power, sensitivity, clarity of mind and a felt safety that helps me stay with physical and emotional challenges. Coming from a felt sense of harmony itself, a body-mind at ease and in continuous connection with the vibrant stillness that backgrounds all life.
As attention drops into my body, thinking is suspended and I feel I am being danced. There’s a kind of leaping, or perhaps it’s surfing – a flow – that feels unimpeded and free. Physically it feels easier to breathe, my muscles feel softer and there is a buoyancy in my energy.
